Labradorite is a Feldspar mineral that forms from magma. During its slow cooling, it separates into thin stacked layers of different chemical compositions including sodium and calcium-rich feldspars Labradorite’s characteristic flash (labradorescence) is created by light interacting with the layered structures within the stone. When light enters the stone, it diffracts and reflects between these layers, producing the shimmering flashes of blue, green, gold and other iridescent colours
