How it formed

Corals are marine animals that build rigid skeletons from calcium carbonate. After the coral colony was buried beneath layers of sediment, mineral-rich groundwater slowly preserved the original skeletal structure over millions of years. This natural fossilisation process created the specimen seen today while maintaining many of the coral's intricate growth patterns.
