This Iris Agate slice from Indonesia is a finely banded variety of agate known for the rainbow colours that appear when light passes through it. The effect is completely natural and comes from extremely fine, closely spaced bands that separate light into spectral colours.
Packaged in a case for protecting the crystal and for display
Why is Iris Agate so thin?
Iris Agate is intentionally cut into very thin polished slices so enough light can pass through the fine banding. Slices around 3 mm can already be considered thicker than ideal, while thinner pieces can produce stronger rainbow colour. Some examples are cut to less than 1 mm.
How to see the rainbow
Hold the slice in front of a bright torch, direct sunlight or another concentrated light source, allowing the light to pass through the stone. The rainbow may be subtle or hidden in normal room lighting and can change as you move the slice
