To ensure these jewellery pieces maintains its sparkle and shine, avoid harsh chemicals, keep them dry and take off when washing hands, before the gym or in the shower.
When not wearing these pieces, store in a jewellery box or soft pouch out of direct sunlight.
Sterling Silver Jewellery
Silver is 1 of the most durable metals available and can last a lifetime when taken care of. Sterling silver jewellery can tarnish as pure silver is not strong enough to make jewellery out of. Hence 925 indicates that sterling silver jeweller is made of 92.5% silver (standard amount for silver jewellery) and 7.5% copper.
To prevent tarnishing, keep the jewellery away from harsh chemicals, store it in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and take off when washing hands, exercising and swimming.
Don't be afraid to wear your silver jewellery as friction prevents tarnish build-up.
Also ensure your jewellery is gently wiped with a soft microfibre cloth or a Silver polishing cloth often to prevent tarnish.
However, tarnish can be removed and looks good as new with the following methods:
1. Using a Silver polish with a polishing cloth
Goddards is my favourite polish brand and 1 bottle has lasted me over 2 years (I have no affiliation with this brand).
Shake before use. Apply the polish with a clean, soft cloth until all tarnish is removed. Make sure to avoid reusing the soiled parts of the cloth.
Allow the polish to dry which takes approximately 5-10 minutes and wipe off the dried polish. Rinse the jewellery in warm water and dry with a clean, soft cloth.

2. Using a mild soap or detergent
Mix a few drops of soap or detergent with warm water and dip in a soft cloth. Buff the jewellery until clean. Then rinse in cool water and thoroughly dry the jewellery with a soft cloth or towel.
3. Using baking soda and Aluminium foil
Make a bowl out of Aluminium foil and place the Silver jewellery in the centre.
Add baking soda to hot water in a container. 2 tablespoons of baking soda is adequate for a standard lunch box size.
Add the wrapped jewellery to the container and allow the pieces to soak. The time frame depends on how heavily tarnished the pieces are.
Remove the jewellery and buff with a soft cloth. Rinse in cold water and thoroughly dry the jewellery.
