Pentagonite on Druzy Heulandite & Mordenite Specimen
Pentagonite on Druzy Heulandite & Mordenite Specimen
An amazing specimen cluster with a vibrant blue intact Pentagonite crystal (spikes are also intact) on sparkling Heulandite and white Mordenite in coral formations
Pentagonite is related to Cavansite where they are both extremely rare calcium phyllosilicate minerals (containing Vanadium metal ions that cause the vibrant blue colour) from Pune and Deccan Traps (one of the highest activity of magmatic activity on Earth), India and Oregon in trace amounts. A recent discovery within the past 35 years where they have been found in cracks and cavities of volcanic rock.
Although they are chemically similar, the main difference is formation where Cavansite is rounder with smaller spikes whereas Pentagonite has larger spikes growing outward and has taken a considerably long time to form.
Intact pieces are very rare on the market and is becoming much harder to find. Although these pieces have increased considerably in the past couple of years, the price of this piece is still the same as what it was originally purchased and intended to sell for and not increased to the current Au market (similar pieces are in the hundreds!)
